The date follows the sky, not the other way around.
Astrophotography depends on clear visibility, safe access and the right alignment. After several seasons of unpredictable Sunshine Coast weather, fixed public dates were leaving too much to chance. The Clear-Sky model is my practical solution: wait for a strong workable forecast, release the session and give the priority list first access.
A better chance of getting the conditions you are paying for
No photographer or workshop operator can guarantee clear skies. Even a strong forecast can change. What this model does is remove the weakest part of a conventional astro workshop: choosing a date months in advance and simply hoping the weather cooperates.
I monitor the forecast, cloud, moon, seasonal sky position, tides, access and safety. When a suitable window firms up, the workshop is released with approximately 24–72 hours’ notice. This does not eliminate weather risk, but it materially improves our odds of working under usable skies.
If conditions deteriorate after booking and I cancel the workshop, you receive a full refund. You remain on the Clear-Sky Priority List and can try again when the next suitable night is released.

Different parts of the year create different opportunities
The exact subject and location are shown before you book. Potential locations are selected only where commercial access is approved or otherwise permitted, and every release remains subject to current weather, visibility, tides, safety and access.
Sunshine Coast and Noosa coastline options, selected around the Galactic Core position, cloud, tides, moonlight, safe access and workable foregrounds.
Darker-sky Milky Way sessions at Borumba Dam when the Galactic Core position, forecast and approved access align.
Orion, the Milky Way anticentre, star trails, moonlit landscapes and other seasonal night-sky opportunities when conditions suit.
The exact location is part of the release
Joining the priority list does not commit you to every workshop. Each alert includes the confirmed subject, approximate location, timing and practical requirements so you can decide whether that particular session suits you.
Field guidance plus the complete editing process
The workshop is designed to get you beyond isolated camera settings. You leave with the right source files, a repeatable field sequence and a complete process for finishing the photograph afterwards.
Direct coaching through planning, composition, focusing in the dark, exposure, foreground strategy, capture order and troubleshooting. Maximum four photographers means time to check every setup properly.
A practical field guide to use during the workshop and keep afterwards, covering setup, focus, starting settings, the required capture sequence and final checks before moving the tripod.
Post-workshop access to the full editing process, including stacking for noise reduction, developing the stacked sky, preparing a longer-exposure foreground and blending the finished image where required.

Gear you'll need
- Camera with manual exposure and RAW capture
- Sturdy tripod
- Wide-angle lens; a fast aperture is helpful but not mandatory
- Spare battery, memory card and lens cloth
- Headtorch, preferably with a red-light mode
- Closed footwear, warm layers, water and suitable personal supplies
Weather cancellation and no-shows
If the forecast deteriorates after booking and I cancel the workshop, the payment is refunded in full. There is no forced credit or automatic transfer. You remain on the priority list and can choose whether to book the next suitable release.
No-shows are non-refundable and the full workshop fee is retained. Any customer cancellation is handled under the published cancellation policy shown at booking.
Access and safety
Potential locations may involve darkness, uneven ground, sand, tracks, steps, roadside access or walking with camera equipment. The release email states any material access or fitness requirement before you book. Exact locations are selected around current permissions, safe access and workable conditions.
